How Do I Add a Favicon To My Website?

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Once you have created a favicon you need to upload the filename.ico to your web server.

Then to add a favicon to your website you simply need to insert the following line of HTML code into the head section of your web page.

<link href=”/images/favicon.ico” rel=”shortcut icon” />

After you have done this, refresh your browser and if all is correct the favicon will appear. Some browsers update much quicker than others.

A “Favicon”, which is short for favourites icon, is an icon, usually 16 by 16 pixels large that is associated with a particular website. This favicon is displayed at the top of the browser or if you have a more modern browser, on the tab you are viewing next to the website title. If you add the website to your favourites then the favicon is stored next to the link in your favourites so that it stands out more.
