What is a Favicon?

A “Favicon”, which is short for favourites icon, is an icon, usually 16 by 16 pixels large that is associated with a particular website. This favicon is displayed at the top of the browser or if you have a more modern browser, on the tab you are viewing next to the website title. If you add the website to your favourites then the favicon is stored next to the link in your favourites so that it stands out more.

Here is a tool to create your own favicon from an image such as your websites logo: http://www.html-kit.com/favicon/
